Mike Brown Selected CCHA Defensive Player Of The Week

Ferris State University sophomore goaltender Mike Brown (Calgary, Alberta) has been selected this week's Central Collegiate Hockey Association's (CCHA) Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Ferris State's season-opening non-league series split against 10th-ranked St. Cloud State last weekend (Oct. 11-12) at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. The announcement was made Monday (Oct. 14) by the league office.

Brown blocked 74 of 79 shots for a .940 save percentage in the the two-game non-league set. He recorded a personal career-best 39 saves in last Friday's 2-1 loss to the Huskies before turning aside 35 shots on net, including 15 in the third period, in Saturday's 6-3 triumph. His previous career high was a 38-save performance at Michigan State last season (Oct. 20).

Mike Brown A 2001-02 CCHA All-Rookie Team honoree, Brown was honored as the CCHA's Rookie Player of the Week last season (Jan. 7) for his efforts in a league series at Miami (Ohio). In the two games, Brown posted a .983 save percentage by stopping 59 of 60 shots on goal in the Bulldogs' split with the RedHawks.

Last season in 25 games, the FSU netminder compiled an 8-9-0 record with a 2.66 goals against average and a .911 save percentage. His 2.66 goals against average represented ranked fourth best among Ferris' all-time single-season leaders. Furthermore, Brown's 2.62 goals against average and .915 save percentage in league games last winter both ranked fifth best in the CCHA.

For his career, Brown has compiled an 11-14-0 mark between the pipes with a 2.65 goals against average and a .914 save percentage in 27 appearances.

Ferris State starts CCHA play this upcoming weekend (Oct. 18-19) as the Bulldogs host the Bowling Green State University Falcons at the Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids. Opening faceoff for Friday's (Oct. 18) contest is 7:35 p.m. (EDT) with Saturday's rematch slated for a 7:05 p.m. (EDT) start time.
