Ferris State Netminder Makes CCHA History
Sophomore goaltender Mike Brown (Calgary, Alberta) of the nationally-ranked Ferris State University men's ice hockey team became the first player in Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) History to capture a weekly award for four consecutive weeks as a result of being selected this week's CCHA Defensive Player of the Week.
A week ago, Brown joined Nebraska-Omaha goaltender Dan Ellis as the only individuals to be honored as a league player of the week three straight times. Ellis was recognized as the CCHA's Defensive Player of the Week for three consecutive weeks last season.
Brown played an integral role in net this last weekend (Nov. 1-2) as the Bulldogs registered their third consecutive CCHA series sweep of this season with a pair of league wins (5-0 and 5-1) at Alaska Fairbanks. With the two-game sweep, FSU is presently 7-1-0 overall and sports a first-place 6-0-0 league mark. The Bulldogs' 7-1 start ties for the second best start in the program's history as the 1983-84 squad also was victorious in seven of their first eight season-opening games.
For the two-game set, Brown stopped 47-of-48 shots for a .955 save percentage and was the Perani Cup First Star each night. He posted 21 saves in Friday's outing en route to notching his third career shutout and then compiled 26 saves in Saturday's contest while allowing only an even-strength Nanooks' goal. 
In eight contests this season, Brown is 7-1-0 with a 1.38 goals against average and a .957 save percentage.
For his career, Brown has compiled a 17-14-0 mark to go with a 2.33 goals against average and a .923 save percentage in 33 appearances to date.
Ferris State returns home this weekend (Nov. 8-9) as the Bulldogs entertain the Wayne State University Warriors in a two-game non-league set at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. Opening faceoff for Friday's game is 7:35 p.m. (EST) while Saturday's outing is set for a 7:05 p.m. (EST) start time.
