Zach Redmond (Traverse City), a sophomore on the 2008-09 Ferris State Univerity men's ice hockey team, has been honored as this week's (Oct. 27) Defenseman of the Week by the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) as announced by the league office.

Redmond registered a combined three points in Ferris State's home-and-home CCHA series against Western Michigan this past weekend (Oct. 24-25) as the Bulldogs recorded three league points with a tie and a victory. The FSU assistant captain assisted on the Bulldogs' lone goal in last Friday's (Oct. 24) 1-1 overtime tie at WMU in Kalamazoo, Mich., and then was credited with two helpers in Saturday's (Oct. 25) 5-2 home triumph over the Broncos at Ferris' Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. Redmond assisted on the Bulldogs' game-winning lamplighter and finished the contest with a plus two efficiency rating. For the two-game league set, Redmond had 12 shot attempts with six apiece in each outing and blocked a total of three shots by the opposition.

This season, Redmond presently ranks tied for third among Ferris State's leading scorers with five points on all assists in six outings to go along with a team-high plus five efficiency rating and a squad-best six blocked shots. The 6-1, 195-pound defenseman has notched at least a point in four of the Bulldogs' six encounters to date this season.

For his career, Redmond has currently totaled six goals with 18 assists for 24 points and four multiple-point game performances in 43 contests. He has presently produced a plus 19 efficiency rating while notching one power-play goal, a short-handed tally, and a game-winning marker apiece.

Redmond, a 2007-08 CCHA All-Rookie Team Honorable Mention selection, led all Ferris State defensemen in scoring last season with 19 points on six goals and 13 assists in 37 contests. The 2007-08 FSU Rookie of the Year Award recipient placed sixth in team scoring and generated the second highest points total among the Bulldogs' freshmen skaters a season ago.

Prior to the start of this season, Redmond was the third player to be chosen in the final round of the 2008 National Hockey League's (NHL) Entry Draft as the Atlanta Thrashers tabbed him with the 184th overall pick. He also was Ferris State's featured player on Inside College Hockey.com's (INCH) "A to Z 2008-09 Preview" and achieved honorable mention kudos on the 2008-09 CCHA Preseason All-Conference Team.

Ferris State, which is currently 2-2-2 overall and 1-0-1-0 in the CCHA this season, entertains the Lake Superior State this weekend (Oct. 31-Nov. 1) in a two-game CCHA series at Big Rapids. The puck will drop for this Friday's (Oct. 31) contest at 7:05 p.m. (EDT) while a 5:05 p.m. (EDT) opening faceoff is slated for Saturday's (Nov. 1) tilt.
