The Bulldogs, who even their overall record this season to 8-8-3 with the victory, also notched their first non-conference decision of the 2008-09 campaign in the process.
Alabama-Huntsville, which was making its first appearance in Big Rapids since the 1985-86 season, struck first as Joe Federoff scored a lamplighter at 4:41 into the contest. Senior right wing Corey Couturier (Traverse City) evened the score for Ferris State a little over four minutes later with a shot from just outside the inner portion of the right circle which sailed into the far corner of the UAH goal. Couturier picked up his fourth of the year with sophomore left wing Mike Embach (Orland Park, Ill.) assisting.
Ferris State would claim the lead for good with 9:30 remaining in the opening frame as junior right wing Blair Riley (Kamloops, British Columbia) scored his sixth goal of the season off a rebound shot by senior defenseman Evan Case (Grosse Pointe Woods). FSU outshot UAH, 15-12, in the first 20 minutes of action.
Both teams exchanged a goal apiece in the second period with the Bulldogs scoring at 2:30 into the frame on junior center Aaron Lewicki's (Livonia) team-best eighth of the season. Lewicki backhanded the puck into the net just outside the crease as junior center Casey Haines (Indiana, Pa.) picked up an assist along with freshman defenseman Michael Trebish (Yorkton, Saskatchewan), who achieved his first collegiate point with the second helper. A power-play goal by UAH's Cody Campbell at the 9:35 mark drew the Chargers within a goal at 3-2 as the visitors outshot the hosts 15-9 in the second 20 minutes of action.
The game's final tally would come with seven seconds to go as senior left wing Brendan Connolly (Canmore, Alberta) scored an empty netter after Corey Couturier picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and dished a short pass to Connolly who fired the puck into the net from beyond the blueline.

Corey Couturier and Brendan Connolly both recorded multiple-point game performances for Ferris State. Couturier was selected the first star of the game while Casey Haines earned the contest's second star.
