FERRIS STATE RANKED 19TH THIS WEEK IN INSIDE COLLEGE HOCKEY POLL

Bulldogs Earn National Top 20 Ranking With Series Sweep of Second-Ranked Miami

The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team has cracked the top 20 this week in one national college hockey poll as the Bulldogs are listed 19th by Inside College Hockey.com.

The Bulldogs, who are currently 13-12-5 overall and 10-10-4 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA), also received attention in the U.S. College Hockey Online/CSTV (USCHO) poll by being listed among 16 teams as others receiving votes with 10 total.

Ferris State is ranked 19th nationally this week by Inside College Hockey.com through the efforts of freshman Justin Menke among many others.

Ferris State, under 16th-year head coach Bob Daniels, extended its current unbeaten streak to five games (3-0-2) with a two-game home league series sweep of nationally second-ranked Miami (Ohio) last weekend (Feb. 15-16) at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.

The Bulldogs are presently listed in 33rd place with .4958 rating in the USCHO.com Rating Percentage Index (RPI). The Ratings Percentage Index is one tool used to select teams for the national collegiate ice hockey tournament. Only results from games between two teams that each play 20 or more games against Division 1 opponents are used. Factors involved are 1) the team's winning percentage; 2) the average winning percentage of the team's opponents; and 3) the average winning percentage of the team's opponents' opponents. These factors are multiplied by 25%, 21%, and 54% respectively. A team's record is based only on games against other Division I hockey schools which are eligible for the NCAA Tournament. In particular, only non-exhibition matchups between schools in the six major conferences count towards a team's record as used in the RPI and PWR. Other games, including contests against Canadian schools and tournament-ineligible D-I programs, are not counted.

The 2007-08 Bulldogs attained national poll listing earlier this season (Nov. 5) by being among other teams to receive votes in all three national collegiate hockey polls - Inside College Hockey.com, U.S. College Hockey Online/CSTV, and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine. Ferris State will skate against the Bowling Green State Falcons this weekend (Feb. 22-23) in a two-game CCHA set in Bowling Green, Ohio. Both contests will be held at the BGSU Ice Arena and start at 7:05 p.m. (EST).
