Bulldog Sophomore Joins 10 Other Finalists For League's Top Academic Award

Sophomore Aaron Lewicki (Livonia) of the Ferris State University men's ice hockey team has been named as the Bulldogs' 2007-08 representative of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Lewicki is one of 11 outstanding student-athletes to be designed as their team's 2007-08 CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year and will vie for the CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. The University of Michigan was the lone CCHA school not to have a CCHA Scholar-Athlete nominee. The 2007-08 CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year will be chosen from among the group of nominees with the winner being announced at the 2008 CCHA Awards Banquet on Thursday, March 20, at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Mich. The event is open to the public and tickets are $15 apiece. The evening commences with a social hour at 6:30 p.m. (EDT), followed by the presentation at 7:30 p.m. (EDT). The faculty representative at each CCHA-member school, in consultation with the head coach, selected their institution's Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Each school's Scholar-Athlete of the Year serves as the school's nominee for CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Nominees must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 through the fall term of the selection year to receive their school's Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. The CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year is selected by the 12 faculty representatives at each CCHA-member school. Voting is based on a system awarding five points for a first-place vote, three points for a second-place vote and one point for a third-place vote.
Lewicki, a finance major, presently ranks ninth among the Ferris State's leading points producers with 13 points on four goals and nine assists in 36 games. The 6-0, 194-pound center has registered a power-play goal, one short-handed tally, and a game-winning lamplighter this campaign to date. Lewicki has posted at least a point in 13 contests this season.
In 68 career outings, Lewicki has compiled 28 points with 13 goals and 15 assists to go along with 10 penalties for 20 minutes. He has produced two power-play tallies, one short-hander, and three game-winning markers in his Bulldog career.
Ferris State, which is presently 17-14-5 overall this season and ranked 18th nationally this week by Inside College Hockey.com, faces 12th-ranked Notre Dame this weekend (March 14-16) in a best-of-three CCHA Playoff Second-Round series at Notre Dame, Ind.
