For the second consecutive season, the Ferris State University men's ice hockey team has been selected to finish ninth place in the 2007-08 Central Collegiate Hockey Association's (CCHA) Coaches Preseason Poll, which was released this Tuesday (Sept. 25) afternoon in conjunction with the CCHA's annual Media Day in the Olympia Room at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich.

The Bulldogs received 44 points in the coaches poll and trailed Northern Michigan for eighth place by four points. Miami (Ohio) was chosen as the preseason favorites as the RedHawks earned 114 points and five first-place votes. Michigan State, the 2006-07 NCAA Division I National Champions, picked up six first-place votes and totaled 113 points to finish second. Notre Dame, which claimed both the CCHA Regular-Season and CCHA Tournament Championship titles, was third with 105 points and one first-place vote.

Ferris State head coach Bob Daniels and the Bulldogs were selected ninth in the 2007-08 Preseason CCHA Coaches Poll and eighth in the media poll.
Ferris State recorded 279 points in the media poll to place eighth as the Bulldogs were nine points in front of Lake Superior State's ninth-place 270-points total. Michigan State was tabbed the favorite to win the CCHA regular-season title by the media. A total of 63 media members ranked the 12 CCHA teams in projected order of finish for the regular season. Points were awarded on a 12-11-10,9, etc., basis. League coaches ranked the CCHA teams, excluding their own school, in the order they predicted the regular season will end. Points in the coaches poll were tallied on a 11-10-9, etc., basis.

The Bulldogs were chosen to place ninth in the 2006-07 CCHA Coaches Preseason Poll with 55 points and were seventh in the media poll with 437 points.

"We were predicted about where I thought we would be," said FSU Head Coach Bob Daniels, who embarks on his 16th year directing the Bulldogs this upcoming 2007-08 campaign. "With that said, our goal for this upcoming season is to finish among the CCHA's top four and I believe we have a team which is capable of achieving that goal.

"We arguably have one of the top two defensive units in the league in regards to talent and depth. What's unproven at this point is scoring, but we have a lot of candidates who weren't in scoring roles last season due to the seniors on last year's team. We're hopeful the guys who return this season will step in to fill those scoring roles and will be given an opportunity to do so," added Daniels, who's Ferris State's all-time winningest coach and enters this season 11 victories of reaching the 250-career wins plateau.

The Bulldogs return 19 letterwinners from last season's squad which went 14-22-3 overall and placed ninth in the CCHA standings at 10-16-2 (22 points).

Ferris will step on to the ice for the first time in 2007-08 Sunday, Oct. 7, with its annual Crimson and Gold Intrasquad Game at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. (EDT) and a skills competition will be held between the first two periods.

The official start of the 2007-08 regular-season campaign begins the weekend of Oct. 12-13 when the Bulldogs visit the Union Dutchmen in a two-game non-league series in Schenectady, N.Y. A 7:05 p.m. (EDT) faceoff is scheduled for both contests.

The following weekend, Oct. 19-20, Ferris hosts the Wayne State Warriors in the Bulldogs' 2007-08 season home-opening series at the Ewigleben Ice Arena. The non-league series' opener on Friday (Oct. 19) will start at 7:05 p.m. (EDT) while Saturday's (Oct. 20) encounter is slated to drop the puck at 5:05 p.m. (EDT).
