VESELY CHOSEN AS FERRIS STATE'S CCHA SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Senior Now Among Finalists For League's Top Academic Award

Ferris State University men's ice hockey senior left wing Eric Vesely (Woodstock, Ill.) has been tabbed as the Bulldogs' 2006-07 Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Scholar-Athlete of the Year in an announcement made Tuesday (March 6) by the CCHA office.
Vesely is among 12 outstanding student-athletes to have been designated as their team's 2006-07 Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The CCHA Scholar-Athlete
of the Year will be chosen from among the group of nominees with the winner being announced at the 2007 CCHA Awards Banquet on Thursday, March 15, at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Mich.

The faculty representative at each CCHA-member school, in consultation with the head coach, selected the institution's Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Each school's Scholar-Athlete of the Year serves as the school's nominee for CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Nominees must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 through the fall term of the selection year to receive their school's Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. The CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year will be selected by the 12 faculty representatives with voting based on a system awarding five points for a first-place vote, three points for a second-place vote and one point for a third-place vote.
The 2007 CCHA Awards Banquet, slated for March 16 in Detroit, Mich., is open to the public and tickets are $15 apiece. The evening commences with a social hour at 7 p.m. (EST), followed by the presentation at 8:15 p.m. (EST). Vesely joins Greg Rallo and senior defenseman Joe Van Culin (Monticello, Minn.) as Ferris State's CCHA Scholar-Athletes of the Year since the league's new selection format. Rallo attained the honor for the 2005-06 and Van Culin was the Bulldogs' 2004-05 season representative.
A survey engineering technology major, Vesely is a two-time (2004-05 and 2005-06) recipient of the team's Scholar-Athlete Award and has been recognized as the squad's FSU President's Academic Award honoree for having the team's highest grade point average the last two seasons (2004-05 and 2005-06). He also has been listed as a FSU Dean's Academic Award recipient the last two seasons (2004-05 and 2005-06).
This season, Vesely compiled 10 points with eight goals and two assists in 39 games. He produced two multiple-point games during the 2006-07 campaign with two goals apiece against Mercyhurst (Oct. 13) and at Michigan (Jan. 26). Vesely also tallied four power-play lamplighters and had the game-winning marker in the Bulldogs' 5-3 win at Northern Michigan (Jan. 6).
Vesely concluded his Ferris State career with 35 points on 21 goals and 14 assists in 122 outings. The 5-11, 174-pound forward had a plus seven efficiency rating while netting six power-play markers, one short-handed goal, and three game-winners during his four-year (2003-07) career.
Vesely received the team's Plus/Minus Award for the 2005-06 season after being a co-winner of the award in 2004-05. He also was named a tri-recipient of the 2004-05 Steve Banonis Award as Ferris' Most Improved Player.
