William J. "Bucky" Buckingham
Athletics Special Service Award
The Selection Committee of the Bulldog Athletic Hall of Fame has chosen William J. "Bucky" Buckingham as the first recipient of the Bulldog Athletics Special Service Award.
The Award recognizes Bucky's many years of service to Ferris State University intercollegiate athletics as the public address announcer. Buckingham was a Ferris administrator from 1963 until retiring in 1990 as Associate Vice President for Student Services. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Michigan State University and also attended Eastern Michigan University.
"Bucky" served as the PA announcer for Bulldog basketball and football and was the first "Voice of Bulldog Hockey" when the sport was introduced on campus in 1975. He was selected in recognition of the many hours of his own time that he devoted to Bulldog athletics, and for the professional and enthusiastic manner in which he performed his duties.
