Llyod Tonkin Lloyd Tonkin
Football, Basketball 1926-29

Tonkin, who played football and basketball at Ferris from 1926-29, still ranks eighth among Bulldog all-time gridiron scoring leaders with 156 career points. He tallied 23 touchdowns in his career to go along with 18 extra point conversions. The Big Rapids native began his collegiate career under head coach Wallie Hein and played his last three seasons for head coach Bill McElwain. Ferris compiled a 17-10-1 record during Tonkin's career, including a 6-2 mark in 1928. During college and after graduation, Tonkin worked in the oil business for W.C. "Top" Taggart, serving as superintendent at various refinery companies. He was inducted into the Mecosta County Sports Hall of Fame in 1988. Tonkin died in December of 1999.
