FERRIS STATE TURNS IN RECORD-SETTING SCORE AT MARY FOSSUM INVITE

Bulldogs' 937 Three-Round Stroke Total Establishes New School Mark

Elena Robles was the Bulldogs' top performer at the Mary Fossum Invitational.
The Ferris State women's golf team turned in a three-round school record 937 team score (+73) at the Michigan State Mary Fossum Invitational to finish in a tie for seventh place with Kent State.

The Bulldogs tallied a 311 total in Sunday's (Sept. 19) final round, which was preceeded by a 318 and 308 rounds in Saturday's (Sept. 18) action at the Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich. Michigan won the tournament with a 919 score (+55) while host Michigan State's 925 (+61) proved worthy of second place in the 15-team tourney field.

FSU's previous lowest 54-hole score was 960 in 1984 (Sept. 14-15) as the Bulldogs placed tied for third place at the Ferris State Invitational in Big Rapids, Mich.

Individually, junior Elena Robles was FSU's top golfer with a 16th-place tying 233-stroke total (75-76-82--233, +17). Freshman Becky Hoffman turned in a 235 score (72-77-76--235, +19) to garner a tied for 24th place. Frosh Yasuyo Kiyota tied for 28th as a result of firing a 236 (80-78-78--236, +20) on the 6,237-yard, par 72 course.

Sophomore Casey McKinnon (86-77-80--243, +27) and frosh Missy Ward (81-85-77--243, +27) both finished in a five-way deadlock for 53rd place. Michigan's Brianna Broderick earned medalist accolades following a plus three 219 score (72-72-75--219).
