Ferris State Freshmen Continue To Lead Bulldogs

The Ferris State women's golf team claimed runner-up honors at the 17-team Grand Valley State Laker Classic with a two-round 637 team score as the Bulldogs carded a 316 in Tuesday's (Sept. 7) final-round competition on the par 72, 5,861-yard The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Mich.
Host Grand Valley State won its own tourney by shooting a 632-stroke total (+56) while Ferris was five strokes behind the Lakers at 637 (+61). Southern Indiana totaled a 639 score (+63) to claim third followed by Oakland (644, +38) and Nebraska-Omaha (648, +72), respectively.
Ferris tallied a 321 total in Monday's (Sept. 6) opening-round competition before improving upon its final-round score by five strokes.
Freshman Becky Hoffman was the Bulldogs' top finisher, placing tied for second place with a 154 score (79-75--154, +10). Frosh Yasuyo Kiyota, who finished in a three-way tie for 10th place, was six strokes behind Hoffman at 160 (82-78--160, +16).
Freshman Missy Ward notched a 162 score (83-79--162, +18) to garner 16th place. Junior Elena Robles' 165 (77-88--165, +21) tied her for 20th place with four other individuals.
Rounding out the Ferris State scoring individuals were sophomores Casey McKinnon and Heidi Aittama. McKinnon fired a 170 (86-84--170, +26) to tie for 33rd while Aittama turned in a 52nd-place tying 177 (88-89--177, +33). Sophomore Sam Wideman, who participated as a non-scoring individual, produced a 173 score (86-87--173, +29) to tie for 39th place.
