FERRIS STATE WOMEN’S GOLFER RECEIVES ACADEMIC RECOGNITION
Bobbie Earns Verizon Academic All-District IV Honors For Second Straight Year
For the second consecutive year, Ferris State University senior Kathryn Bobbie (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario/Sir James Dunn) of the women’s golf team has been named to the Verizon Academic All-District IV College Division Women’s At-Large Second Team in an announcement made today (May 22).
Bobbie, who achieved academic all-district second-team honors a season ago, was among 10 individuals to attain second-team recognition and joined three other student-athletes as repeat selections from last season to earn either first or second-team accolades on the 2002-03 squad. A marketing/professional golf management major, Bobbie was among 20 total student-athletes (four golfers) named to the District IV first and second teams.  | Senior Kathryn Bobbie picked up another postseason honor this spring by being named to the Verizon Academic All-District IV team for the second straight year. |
Bobbie concluded her four-year Ferris State career with a seventh-place individual finish (313 score) at the 2003 NCAA Division II National Championships (May 14-17) in what represented the third consecutive national tourney appearance of her career. She closes out her FSU career as the school’s all-time leader with a career 79.69 stroke average (7,093 total strokes in 89 rounds) and is the program’s current record holder for the lowest 36-hole score – 148 at the Tri-State Fall Invitational (Oct. 22-23, 2000). Bobbie also holds the distinction of being Ferris’ only two-time All-American (2000-02) as a result of achieving National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Division II All-America Second-Team honors in the 2001-02 season and first-team recognition in the previous campaign (2000-01).
This season, Bobbie was honored as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women’s Golf Athlete of the Year for the second time in her career after initially receiving the honor for the 2000-01 campaign. She was the top individual medalist at the GLIAC Championships (April 26-27) for the third straight season with a first-place 148 two-round score and registered a team-high 10 top 20 finishes which included a squad-best seven top five individual efforts. Bobbie paced the Bulldogs this campaign with a single-season school-record 78.28 stroke average in 32 total rounds and also holds the second-best single-season performance mark in FSU history with a 79.88 average in 26 rounds set in 2000-01.
Bobbie received acclaim for her on-the-course efforts as she was named to the All-GLIAC First Team for the third consecutive season (2000-03) and was chosen as Ferris State Most Valuable Player for the third straight time after being selected an award co-recipient in 1999-00.
In the classroom, the two-time (2000-02) GLIAC All-Academic honoree has been chosen as a member of the NGCA’s All-America Scholar Team the last two seasons (2000-02).
The Verizon Academic All-District IV team was voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from District IV, which encompasses Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama. To qualify, student-athletes must have reached at least sophomore status academically, maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and also be a starter or key reserve for their team to be nominated. The District IV team is comprised of colleges and universities located in the states of The At-Large Team represents student-athletes from the following women’s sports: crew, gymnastics, skiing, fencing, ice hockey, swimming, water polo, field hockey, lacrosse, tennis, golf and rifle.
