FSU FINISHES SECOND AT GLIAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Ferris' Bobbie and Robles Claim Top Two Individual Placings

Ferris State's bid for a second consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) women's golf championship fell just short Sunday as the Bulldogs took second place, finishing two strokes behind champion Grand Valley State.

The Bulldogs totaled a two-round 626 score (310-316--626, +50) on the Par 72, 5,857-yard Riverside Golf Club course in Cambridge Springs, Pa. Meanwhile, GVSU overcame a one-stroke deficit in the first round to record a final-round 313 and finish with a 624 score (+48). The 626 Bulldog score represented the third lowest score for 36 holes in school history and two only two strokes shy of tying for second place all-time.

Jen Dziabo
Senior Jen Dziabo tied for seventh place at the conference tournament as a result of carding a season-best two-round 162 score.

The runner-up finish occurred despite the Bulldogs receiving an individual medalist performance by senior Kathryn Bobbie, who finished first by firing a 148 score (74-74--148, +4). Her two-round total tied for the second-best 36-hole score in the program's history. Bobbie, the 2000-01 GLIAC Women's Golfer of the Year and FSU's only two-time All-American (2000-02), captured top medalist honors as well at the 2002 GLIAC Championships with a two-round 156 total as the Bulldogs claimed their first-ever conference championship title.

Freshman Elena Robles took second-place honors as a result of firing a season-best tying 149-stroke total (73-76--149, +5). Senior Jen Dziabo also turned in a noteworthy performance with a seventh-place tying 162 (78-84--162, +18), which also represented a personal season-high lowest score.

Senior Jenn Soltis' 171 total score (85-86--171, +27) was good enough for 13th place while sophomore Meredith Johnson compiled a 172 (90-82--172, +28) to tie for 14th. Rounding out the FSU field was junior Cassie Graves, who shot a two-round 176 total (88-88--176, +32) to finish in a three-way tie for the 20th-place position.

Next up for Ferris is the NCAA East Regional Tournament, which will be held May 6-7 at the Findlay (Ohio) Country Club.
