For the third consecutive time to date this fall, the nationally-ranked Ferris State women's golf team captured top team honors as the Bulldogs carded a first-place 621 team score Tuesday (Oct. 7) at the Detroit Titans Invitational in Redford, Mich.
Ferris State started out with a 310 score in Monday's (Oct. 6) opening round before firing a 311-stroke total in Tuesday's (Oct. &) final-round action on the par 72, 5,995-yard Western Country Club.
Youngstown State placed second with a 626 score while Dayton was third at 657 and host Detroit rounded out the four-team tourney with a 661-stroke total.
Senior Meghan Hunter (Dexter) led the Bulldogs with a second-place 152 score (75-77=152). Hunter tied two Samantha Formeck and Kathryn Rogner, both of Youngstown State, for top individual honors after regulation. However, Hunter was eliminated after the first hole with a bogey while both YSU players registered a par. Formeck would then birdie the second hole to garner the top individual honor.
Senior Alison Meyer (Duluth, Minn./Central) turned in a 154 score (77-77=154) to earn fourth-place honors. A pair of freshmen, Bryce Hetchler (Clinton Township/Fraser) and Erin Fuchik (Tulsa, Okla./Bishop Kelley) both netted 36-hole 160-stroke totals to tie for eighth place. Hetchler recorded 78 and 82 rounds while Fuchik produced rounds of 84 and 76 strokes.
Senior Raquel Hansen (West Olive/Grand Haven) also placed among the top 10 individuals by tallying a 161 score (80-81=161).
Prior to the Detroit Titans Invite, Ferris State placed first at the Findlay William "Bing" Beall Classic (Sept. 28-29) and at the Siena Heights Invitational (Oct. 4).
