FSU TAKES THIRD PLACE IN WEEKEND EVENT

Ferris State Women's Golf The Ferris State University women's golf team placed third this past weekend (April 17-18) in the Ashland Invitational, which was held at the Ashland Country Club in Ashland, Ohio.

Grand Valley State captured the team championship with a 631 stroke total over the two rounds on the par 72 course of 5,856 yards. Host Ashland placed second (637) with the Bulldogs in third place (643) and California (Pa.) coming in fourth (647).

FSU shot a first-round score of 321 followed by a 322 in day two competition.

The individual winners was California's (Pa.) Jenna Rothermel with a 154 (78-76). She won a playoff over GVSU"s Caitlin Bennett, who also carded a 154 on rounds of 80 and 74.

Bulldog senior Alison Meyer tied for fifth place (78-80=158) while senior Meghan Hunter came in seventh (77-82=159).

Senior Raquel Hansen finished tied for 10th place (83-78=161), freshman Erin Fuchik placed tied for 14th (83-82=165) and freshman Bryce Hetchler tied for 17th overall (85-85=170). Finally, freshman Blaize Baumgartner tied for 24th in the field (88-85=173).

Ten teams and 60 individuals took part in the two-day tourney.

FSU, which ranks eighth nationally in the latest Golf World/National Golf Coaches Association Women's Division II Coaches Poll, next takes part in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships on Saturday and Sunday (April 25-26) in Allendale, Mich.
