Ferris State Senior Chalks Up Conference Honor

Alison Meyer

Ferris State University senior Alison Meyer (Duluth, Minn./Central) has been selected as this week's (Sept. 17) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) Women's Golf Athlete of the Week in an announcement made by the conference office.

Meyer, a 2007-08 National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Division II Women's Collegiate Golf All-America Honorable Mention pick, helped lead the nationally fifth-ranked Bulldogs to a seventh-place finish at last Sunday's (Sept. 14) Michigan Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich. Meyer carded a five-over-par team-leading 76 score on the par 71, 6,098-yard University of Michigan Golf Course to tie for 13th-place honors.

A two-time (2006-07 and 2007-08) All-GLIAC First-Team honoree, Meyer is currently averaging 75.40 strokes per round (377 total strokes) in five rounds this fall. She has compiled three top-20 place performances this season to date, which includes a season-best fourth-place tying 149 score at the season-opening Ferris State Bulldog Invitational (Aug. 30-31) in Big Rapids, Mich.

For her career, Meyer has compiled a current 78.78 stroke average (6,381 total strokes) in 81 rounds. She has accumulated 26 finishes in the top 20 with 15 of those performances being among the top 10 individuals. Her current career stroke average presently ranks second best on the program's career average leaders list.

This summer, Meyer earned individual medalist honors at the 2008 Minnesota Women's Golf State Amateur Tournament in Edina, Minn.

Meyer, a two-time (2006-07 and 2007-08) GLIAC All-Academic selection, helped lead Ferris State to a third-place national finish at the 2007 NCAA Division II National Championships and a fourth-place showing at the 2008 national tourney.
