The Bulldogs will be making their eighth NCAA Women's Golf Regional Tournament appearance in a row.

The nationally eighth-ranked Ferris State University women's golf team will be participating for the eighth consecutive time in postseason competition as the Bulldogs have been selected to participate in the 2009 NCAA Division II Women's Golf East Super Regional from May 3-5 at California, Pa. The qualifiers, both team and individuals, were announced Monday (April 27) by the NCAA-II Women's Golf Committee.

Ferris State is among eight teams slated to compete in the East Super Regional, which will be held at the Cedarbrook Golf Course. California University of Pennsylvania will be hosting the regional tournament.

The Bulldogs, who are directed by second-year head coach Mike Mignano, are the third seed in the East Region. Representing the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) along with Ferris State are number-one seed Grand Valley State, fifth-seed Ashland, and ninth-seed Findlay. Comprising the remainder of the East Region field are second-seed Indianapolis, fourth-seed California (Pa.), sixth-seed Drury (Mo.), seventh-seed Southern Indiana, and eighth-seed Northern Kentucky. The four individuals competing are Carmen Titus of Rockhurst (Ill.), Sarah Duplessis of Bellarmine (Ky.), Missouri-St. Louis' Amie Koerner, and Amy Sachs of Lewis (Ill.).

Ferris State is presently ranked eighth in the most recent (April 22) Golf World/National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Women's Golf Coaches' Poll with 137 points. The Bulldogs have placed at least third or higher in nine of their 12 tournaments this 2008-09 season, which includes three first-place performances - at Findlay William "Bing" Beall Classic (Sept. 28-29), Siena Heights Invitational (Oct. 4), and Detroit Titans Invitational (Oct. 6-7). FSU recently captured third place at the 2009 GLIAC Women's Golf Championships (April 26-27) in Allendale, Mich.

A season ago (May 5-7), Ferris State garnered runner-up honors at the 2008 NCAA-II East Regional as a result of carding a three-round 958 team score (317-305-336=958) in the six-team tourney conducted at Grand Valley State's The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale. In 2007 (April 30-May 2), the Bulldogs won their second NCAA-II East Regional Championship in the program's history by firing a 902 team score in the 54-hole tourney held at FSU's Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich.

FSU will be making its eighth straight NCAA-II Regional Tournament appearance this spring after making its debut back in the 2001-02 season with a third-place showing. To date, the Bulldogs have won a regional tourney twice (2003-04 and 2006-07) while attaining runner-up honors on three other occasions (2004-05, 2005-06, and 2007-08).

Each super regional will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently with nine teams and four individuals from non-qualifying teams at each site. All participants will compete throughout the 54 holes of competition. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not affiliated with a team from each super regional, will advance to the championships.

The 2009 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships will be played May 13-16 at the University of Findlay (Ohio) Golf Course. The 2009 championships will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. All participants will compete throughout the entire 72 holes of competition. In the team competition, the low four scores for each team will count in each day’s total score. The total of 72 participants will qualify for the national tournament.
