HOUSTON – Ferris State University’s softball team is not the only squad representing the University’s crimson and gold colors in Texas.

The women’s golf team is competing in the 2008 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf National Championships at Memorial Park Golf Course (just across the road from the softball stadium). Ferris Athletics Director Tom Kirinovic, head softball coach Keri Becker and former women’s golf coach Brad Bedortha (now the head women’s golf coach at Northern Arizona) were among individuals cheering on the golfers in their quest to stay in contention for a national championship.

The Bulldogs, being coached on an interim basis by 2006 Ferris graduate Mike Mignano (who took over prior to the start of the season when Ferris graduate Bedortha announced his resignation) entered round three sitting in third place on the team leaderboard at Memorial Park Golf Course.

Junior Alison Meyer has been enjoying a solid national tournament through the first few rounds as she fired a 71 and a 76 in rounds one and two for the Bulldogs. Senior Becky Hoffman is hanging around in an effort to crack the top 10 on the individual leaderboard. As a team, Ferris had a tough round three at nationals as it shot a 320 to drop to fourth place.

Like the softball team, the Bulldog golfers have been battling hot and humid conditions in Texas in pursuit of a national championship. Earlier in the day, as was the case with softball, play was delayed by rain and lightning in the area.
