Senior Becky Hoffman Wins Playoff For Medalist Honors
The nationally-ranked Ferris State women's golf team posted a three-round 927-stroke total to finish in second place at the 2008 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Golf Championships, which were held April 20-21 in Arlington, Ohio.
The Bulldogs carded rounds of 307, 313, and 307 on the par 72, 5,851-yard Sycamore Springs Golf Course to finish 20 strokes behind champion Grand Valley State (907, +43) in the seven-team tourney field. Ashland garnered third place with a 957 (+93) while host Findlay wrapped up fourth place as a result of shooting a 981 (+117).
Senior Becky Hoffman was the tournament's top individual medalist as she bested Grand Valley State’s Ashley Smith by carding a birdie in the first playoff hole. Hoffman carded a 226 (74-75-77=226, +10) as did Smith (73-78-75=226, +10) after three rounds.
Junior Meghan Hunter fired a 230 score (76-79-75=230,+14) to capture fifth place while junior Alison Meyer was five strokes back with a 235-stroke total (77-80-78=235,+19).
Tying for 10th place was junior Raquel Hansen, who registered a 238 score (80-81-77=238, +22).
Senior Missy Ward turned in a 17th-place 244 score (81-79-84=244, +28) while freshman Jacqueline Benscoter placed in a three-way tie for 20th place after generating a 250 total ( 83-82-85=250, +34).
