FSU ADVANCES TO NATIONALS WITH REGIONAL FINISH
Bulldogs Finish Second In NCAA-II East Regional
The nationally-ranked Ferris State women's golf team will be making its fifth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships after the Bulldogs posted a second-place 958-team score at the 2008 NCAA-II East Regional (May 5-7) in Allendale, Mich.
The Bulldogs carded a 958-stroke total (317-305-336=958, +94) on the par 72, 5,923-yard Meadows Golf Course on the campus of Grand Valley State. The host Lakers captured the regional title by producing a first-place 940 score in the six-team tournament field.
Junior Raquel Hansen fired a second-place tying 233 score (79-74-80=233, +17) to pace the Bulldogs. Junior Alison Meyer posted a 237 (80-77-80=237, +21) to tie for sixth place.
Senior Missy Ward tallied a 244 (77-78-89=244, +28) to garner 11th place while senior Becky Hoffman's 245 score (81-76-88=245, +29) tied her for 12th-place honors. Junior Meghan Hunter rounded out Ferris' scoring by shooting a 266 (94-84-88=266, +50) to place in a three-way tie for 27th place.
The Bulldogs will now prepare for the 2008 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships, which will be held May 13-16 at Memorial Park in Houston, Texas. The national tourney will be hosted by the Rice University and the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority. The championships are part of the Division II Spring Championships Festival.
