Senior Becky Hoffman (Gaines/Swartz Creek) of the nationally-ranked 2007-08 Ferris State University women's golf team has been chosen as this week's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Golf Athlete of the Week in an announcement made by the conference office Tuesday (April 1).

Hoffman helped lead Ferris State to a third-place showing at the Northern Kentucky Invitational this past weekend (March 29-30) in Perry Park, Ky., as she carded a two-round 154-stroke total with a pair of 77 rounds to finish in a three-way tie for eighth place. She was eight strokes behind the tourney's top individual medalist.

For the 2007-08 season, Hoffman has compiled a team-leading 76.94 stroke average (1,308 total strokes) in 17 rounds. She has recorded a team-best seven top-20 place finishes, which includes placing among the top five individuals on two occasions - third at the Olivet Invitational (Sept. 21-22) and tying for fifth at the Findlay William "Bing" Beall Classic (Sept. 30-Oct. 1).

Hoffman is presently averaging a career 78.23 strokes per round (8,058 total strokes) in 103 rounds. She has produced 37 top-20 finishes with 13 of those being in the top five.

Hoffman joins freshman Jacqueline Benscoter (Metamorra/Lapeer West) as Ferris State women's golf student-athletes to attain the weekly conference award this season. Benscoter earned the conference honor in the fall (Sept. 5).

The Bulldogs, who are listed third nationally in the latest (March 21) Golf World/National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Women's Golf Coaches' Poll, will be competing in the 31st annual Illinois Illini Classic this weekend (April 4-5) at the Stone Creek Golf Club in Urbana, Ill.
