Ferris State's Missy Ward has been selected as this week's GLIAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Week.

Junior Missy Ward (Fenton/Linden) of the 2006-07 Ferris State University women's golf team has been chosen the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Golf Athlete of the Week as announced Wednesday (Sept. 7) by the conference office.

Ward, who presently has a team-leading 76.0 stroke average (304 total strokes) in four rounds this season, has been Ferris State's top performer in the Bulldogs' opening two tournaments this fall.

She helped Ferris capture first-place honors at the Ferris State Invitational (Sept. 2-3) with a second-place 150 score (75-75--150, +6) and then recorded a sixth-place tying effort at the Grand Valley State Laker Classic (Sept. 4-5) by turning in a 154-stroke total (75-79--154, +10) as the Bulldogs garnered a second-place finish.

A two-time (2004-05 and 20005-06) All-GLIAC First-Team selection, Ward is averaging 80.0 strokes per round (4,962 total strokes) in 62 career rounds and currently ranks fourth among the school's all-time career average leaders.

Ward has also been named to the 2005-06 GLIAC All-Academic Team and has twice (2004-05 and 2005-06) been recognized as a National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Scholar-Athlete All-America honoree.

Former Ferris State standout Elena Robles received the weekly conference honor last season (April 19).
