Alison Meyer was the top individual medalist at the 2007 GLIAC Championships in leading Ferris State to back-to-back conference titles.

Ferris State University sophomore Alison Meyer (Duluth, Minn./Central), who captured top individual medalist honors at the 2007 GLIAC Championships, has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) Women's Golf Athlete of the Week (April 24).

A former walk-on, Meyer is the only women's golf athlete in the GLIAC this season to achieve the weekly conference award more than once. She previously received the league accolade on April 3.

Meyer turned in the best performance of her career at the 2007 GLIAC Championships (April 20-21) as she carded a first-place 228 three-round score (76-72-80=228) to finish 12 strokes over par as Ferris State won its second consecutive conference championship title.

Meyer presently is second among the 2006-07 team leaders with a 78.14 stroke average (1,641 total strokes) in 21 rounds and has compiled a squad-best tying nine top-20 finishes, including five among the top 10. Besides her notable finish at the 2007 GLIAC Championships, Meyer placed second at the Lenior-Rhyne Lady Bear Invitational (March 12-13) with a two-round 155-stroke total (80-75=155) and tied for second at the Ashland Invitational (March 30-April 1) after firing a 152 (77-75=152) in the 36-hole tourney. In four 2007 spring tournaments, she has produced a 76.33 average (687 total strokes) in nine rounds.

For her career, Meyer is presently averaging 80.05 strokes per round (3,122 total strokes) in 39 rounds of competition. She has accumulated 12 finishes in the top 20 during her career, including four among the top five. Meyer posted an 82.28 average (1,481 total strokes) in 18 rounds for the 2005-06 campaign.

The selection of Meyer as the GLIAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Week represents the fourth time this season in which a Ferris State golfer has earned the weekly conference honor. Junior Missy Ward (Fenton/Linden) was tabbed as the league's first recipient (Sept. 6) in the 2006-07 season and three weeks later (Oct. 3), senior Casey McKinnon (St. Ignace/LaSalle) gained the same recognition. The Bulldogs, who were ranked fourth in the latest (April 20) Golf World/National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Division II Coaches' Poll with 141 points, have finished either first or second place in all but 10 of their regular-season tournaments this 2006-07 season.

Ferris State will be hosting the 2007 NCAA Division II Women's Golf East Regional Championships next week (April 30-May 2) at FSU's par 72, 5,980-yard Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich.
