Bulldogs Finish One Stroke Behind Tourney Champion Grand Valley State

The Ferris State women's golf team completed the final day of play at the 19-team Grand Valley State Laker Classic Tuesday (Sept. 5) and finished the 36-hole event with a second-place 626-stroke total (+50) on the par 72, 5,882-yard GVSU The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Mich.
The Bulldogs, which fired a 310 score in Monday's (Sept. 4) opening round, wound up one stroke in back of tourney champion and host Grand Valley State, which recorded a 625 score (+49). The Lakers posted a final-round 311-stroke total after shooting a 314 in first-round action.
Southern Indiana (636, +60), Indianapolis (640, +64) and Catawba (640, +64) comprised the remainder of the top five scoring teams.
Ferris State was paced for the second straight tourney by junior Missy Ward, who carded a sixth-place tying 154 score (75-79--154, +10). Southern Illinois-Edwardsville's Ashley Hemann (148) earned tourney top medalist laurels by winning a playoff against Kristi Piepenbrink of Indianapolis.
Junior Becky Hoffman tied for 10th place with a 156 (80-76--156, +12) while sophomore Alison Meyer also shot a 156 score (77-79--156, +12).
Sophomore Meghan Hunter claimed a share of 26th place after posting a 160 (78-82--160, +16) and senior Casey McKinnon finished with a 33rd-place tying 163-stroke total (81-82--163, +19).
Among non-scoring individuals, sophomore Raquel Hansen paced the group as she fired a 157 score (77-80--157, +13) to tie for 15th place. Senior Sam Wideman posted a 42nd-place tying 167-stroke total (83-84--167, +23)and junior Kaitlyn Hogan had a 62nd-place tying 171 (91-80--171, +27). Senior Ashley Wolfe generated a 173 score (86-87--173, +29) and tied for 67th place.
