FERRIS STATE WINS ASHLAND INVITATIONAL BY 10 STROKES

Bulldogs Defend Their Tournament Championship Title; Meyer Places Tied For Second

Alison Meyer shot a team-leading 152 score to help Ferris State win the Ashland Invitational for the second year in a row.
Four golfers finished in the top 10 for the nationally-ranked Ferris State University women's golf team as the Bulldogs won the 2007 Ashland Invitational (March 31-April 1) with a two-round 633 team score on the par 72, 5,856-yard Country Club of Ashland course in Ashland, Ohio.

FSU won the tournament for the second consecutive year as the Bulldogs recorded a first-place 641 score in the 2006 tourney.

Ferris led the tourney from start to finish as the Bulldogs carded an opening-round 320 in Saturday's (March 31) action and then followed with a tournament-best 313 score in Sunday's (April 1) final-round competition. California (Pa.) finished runner-up to the Bulldogs with a 643 team score in the seven-team tournament.

Sophomore Alison Meyer led the way for Ferris, registering a 152 (77-75=152) to finish tied for second place. Both Meyer and Northwood's Jamie Long lost to California's (Pa.) Simone DeSouza in a playoff.

Junior Becky Hoffman claimed a share of fourth place with a 156 (82-74=156) as sophomore Raquel Hansen equalled Hoffman's stroke total with a 156 (76-80=156). Hansen participated in a non-scoring capacity.

Taking sixth was senior Casey McKinnon, who compiled a 160 (78-82=160). Junior Missy Ward turned in a 165 (83-82=165) to tie for 10th place. Sophomore Meghan Hunter posted a 170-stroke total ( 84-86=170), which tied her for 17th place.
