GLIAC Champions
Ferris State turned in a convincing performance at the 2007 GLIAC Women's Golf Championships last weekend (April 20-21) in North East, Pa., to defend its conference championship title.
The Ferris State women's golf team successfully defended its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Golf Championship title as the nationally-ranked Bulldogs carded a final-round tourney-best 313 score Saturday (April 21) to finish with a first-place 928 team stroke three-round total (+64) and win the 2007 conference tournament.

The GLIAC Championship title represented the second straight for the Bulldogs, who won the 2006 GLIAC Championships (April 22-23) in Midland, Mich., as a result of compiling a 913 score in the 54-hole tourney.

Ferris State, which posted rounds of 310 and 305 in Friday's (April 20) action, wound up 14 strokes in front of second-place Grand Valley State's 942 score (+78) on the par 72, 5,909-yard Lake View Country Club course in North East, Pa.

Finishing in third place was Northwood (992, +128) followed by Findlay (1,021, +157) and Ashland (1,030, +166). Gannon (1,036, +172) claimed sixth place while host Mercyhurst (1,144, +280) rounded out the tourney field.

Sophomore Alison Meyer claimed top individual medalist honors with a first-place 228 score (76-72-80=228, +12). Sophomore Meghan Hunter captured a share of second place as a result of compiling a 231-stroke total (77-76-78=231, +15).

Senior Casey McKinnon fired a 234 (77-78-9=234, +18) to garner fifth place while junior Becky Hoffman's 238 score (82-79-77=238, +22) was good for a seventh-place tie.

Sophomore Raquel Hansen moved up two places from Friday's action to place in a tie for ninth with a 241-stroke total (80-82-79=241, +25). Junior Missy Ward remained in 14th place as she concluded the tournament with a 247 score (86-79-82=247, +31).

The conference championship crown marked Ferris' third since the 2001-02 season as the Bulldogs registered a two-round 658-stroke total at the 2002 GLIAC Championships (April 20-21) in Allendale, Mich.

The Bulldogs will be hosting the 2007 NCAA Division II East Regional next week (April 30-May 2) at FSU's Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich.
