FERRIS STATE REPEATS AS GLIAC WOMEN'S GOLF CHAMPIONS
Bulldogs Lead From The Start; Alison Meyer Is Top Individual Medalist

The Ferris State women's golf team successfully defended its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Golf Championship title as the nationally-ranked Bulldogs carded a final-round tourney-best 313 score Saturday (April 21) to finish with a first-place 928 team stroke three-round total (+64) and win the 2007 conference tournament.
The GLIAC Championship title represented the second straight for the Bulldogs, who won the 2006 GLIAC Championships (April 22-23) in Midland, Mich., as a result of compiling a 913 score in the 54-hole tourney.
Ferris State, which posted rounds of 310 and 305 in Friday's (April 20) action, wound up 14 strokes in front of second-place Grand Valley State's 942 score (+78) on the par 72, 5,909-yard Lake View Country Club course in North East, Pa.
Finishing in third place was Northwood (992, +128) followed by Findlay (1,021, +157) and Ashland (1,030, +166). Gannon (1,036, +172) claimed sixth place while host Mercyhurst (1,144, +280) rounded out the tourney field.
Sophomore Alison Meyer claimed top individual medalist honors with a first-place 228 score (76-72-80=228, +12). Sophomore Meghan Hunter captured a share of second place as a result of compiling a 231-stroke total (77-76-78=231, +15).
Senior Casey McKinnon fired a 234 (77-78-9=234, +18) to garner fifth place while junior Becky Hoffman's 238 score (82-79-77=238, +22) was good for a seventh-place tie.
Sophomore Raquel Hansen moved up two places from Friday's action to place in a tie for ninth with a 241-stroke total (80-82-79=241, +25). Junior Missy Ward remained in 14th place as she concluded the tournament with a 247 score (86-79-82=247, +31).
The conference championship crown marked Ferris' third since the 2001-02 season as the Bulldogs registered a two-round 658-stroke total at the 2002 GLIAC Championships (April 20-21) in Allendale, Mich.
The Bulldogs will be hosting the 2007 NCAA Division II East Regional next week (April 30-May 2) at FSU's Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich.
