BECKY HOFFMAN NAMED TO NGCA ALL-AMERICA TEAM

Becomes The Fourth Bulldog To Attain All-America Honors In More Than One Season

Junior Becky Hoffman (Gaines/Swartz Creek) of the nationally-ranked Ferris State University women's golf team has been named to the 2006-07 National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Division II Women's Golf All-America Honorable Mention Team.

The NGCA announced its three All-America teams (first, second, and honorable mention) during the NGCA Division II Awards Banquet at the 2007 NCAA-II Women's Golf Championships (May 9-12) in Pace, Fla.

Hoffman was one of six individuals to receive honorable mention Duramed FUTURES Tour NGCA Division II All-America recognition. She also received the same honor by the NGCA in the 2004-05 season.

Nova Southeastern's Maria Garcia-Austt was honored as both the the PING NGCA Division II Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year. Robbie Davis was presented with the Division II National Coach of the Year Award while the Division II Kim Moore Spirit Award went to Adi Attaway-Bryant of Texas A&M-Commerce.

A three-time (2004-05, 2005-06, and 2006-07) All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) First-Team selection, Hoffman was Ferris State's top golfer this season with a team-leading and career-high per-round average of 76.86 (2,152 total strokes) in 28 rounds of competition. Her stroke average represented the second-best ever among the program's all-time single-season leaders. She also produced 11 top 20 finishes, which included four in the top five.

The Bulldogs' top performer in four tournaments this campaign, Hoffman placed runner-up for medalist honors at both the Ball State Cardinal Classic (Sept. 9-10) and the NCAA-II East Regional (April 30-May 2), which was held at FSU's Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich. Hoffman fired a team-best 148 two-round stroke total at the Ball State Cardinal Classic and posted a squad-leading 219 three-round score at the NCAA-II East Regional. She closed out the 2006-07 season by helping lead Ferris State to a third-place finish with a 1,228 team score at the 2007 NCAA-II Women's Golf Championships (May 9-12) in Pace, Fla., as a result of carding a ninth-place 302 four-round stroke total.

In her three-year (2004-07) career at Ferris State, Hoffman currently ranks first in best career average on the school's charts at 78.49 (6,750 total strokes) in 86 rounds. She has totaled 30 career top-20 finishes with 11 of those being among the top five.

Hoffman was chosen as the 2004-05 GLIAC Freshman of the Year and was the recipient of the team's Bulldog Award for dedication and hard work in the 2004-05 season.

A quality student-athlete, Hoffman has been recognized as a NGCA Scholar-Athlete All-American for two consecutive seasons (2004-05 and 2005-06) and was a repeat (2005-06 and 2006-07) selection to the GLIAC All-Academic Team.

The criteria for being selected a NGCA All-American consists of NCAA qualifying averages (all rounds minus three highest rounds), tournament victories and average place of finish, quality of field in tournaments and being a NCAA Medalist (automatic inclusion). The NGCA, which began in 1983 as an organization to promote participation in women’s golf, is the premier member-driven association for women’s golf coaches at NCAA Division I, II and III institutions. The 250-plus member NGCA, which is headquartered in Chicago, Ill., encourages the playing of intercollegiate golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition.

Hoffman along with sophomore Meghan Hunter (Dexter) were also named to the 2007 NGCA All-East Region Team after finishing among the top five individually. The Bulldogs captured the East Region Championship title with a first-place 902-stroke total in the three-round tourney.

With her selection, Hoffman becomes the 10th women's golf athlete at Ferris State to earn All-America plaudits. She also is the the fourth individual in the program's history to receive All-America recognition in more than one season.
