ROBLES NAMED GLIAC WOMEN'S GOLF ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Bulldog Senior Posted A Pair of Third-Place Finishes In Recent Tournament Action

Elena Robles has been chosen as the GLIAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Week following a pair of third-place performances in her last two tourney appearances.

Senior Elena Robles (Torrance, Calif./Redondo Union) of the Ferris State University women's golf team has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) Women's Golf Athlete of the Week for the period of April 14-18, the league office announced today (April 19).

Robles, who presently ranks 115th nationally for all divisions in the latest Golfstat Cup standings which ranks the top scoring averages in collegiate women's golf, registered a combined 79.75 average (319 total strokes) in her last four rounds.

A two-time (2002-03 and 2004-05) All-GLIAC First-Team selection and a 2004-05 National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-America Second-Team honoree, Robles turned in a third-place 161 score (78-83--161) at the Ashland (Ohio) Invitational (April 14-15) to help the Bulldogs capture the tourney championship. She then registered a team-best 158-stroke total (77-81--158) at the Findlay (Ohio)-Outback Steakhouse Invitational (April 17-18) in leading Ferris to a second-place tourney showing.

Robles is currently averaging a team-leading 75.84 strokes per round (1,441 total strokes) in 19 rounds of competition and has placed among the top three in eight of nine tournaments this season.

The two-time (2003-04 and 2004-05) FSU Most Valuable Golfer has earned top individual medalist honors in three 2005-06 tournaments -- Ball State Cardinal Classic (147; Sept. 19-20), Northwood Invitational (148; Sept. 30-Oct. 1), and Findlay William "Bing" Beall Classic (147; Oct. 2-3).
