FERRIS FINISHES SECOND IN NORTHERN KENTUCKY SPRING TOURNEY
Bulldogs Earn Runner-Up Honors In 17-Team Event
The Ferris State women's golf team came in second overall in the Northern Kentucky Spring Fling Invitational held Saturday and Sunday (March 25-26) in Perry Park, Ky.
The Bulldogs posted a two-round score of 620 (+44) to finish four strokes behind Drury (Mo.), which carded a 616 (+40). FSU took the first-day lead with a 310 on Saturday, but DU fired a low round of 305 in Sunday's final day of action to finish first overall in the 17-team field.
Ferris, which shot an identical score of 310 in Sunday's final round, placed first of the four Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) member schools in the field.
Senior Elena Robles led the Bulldogs as she finished third overall with a two-day total of 150 (+6). Robles shot a 76 Saturday followed by a 74 on Sunday. Tonya Choate of Drury carded the event's low score with a final total of 143 (-1).
Junior Casey McKinnon tied for 12th place overall for Ferris State as she shot a 78 both days and carded a 156 total (+12). Sophomore Missy Ward also was part of the five-way tie for 12th place with a 156 (+12). Ward posted scores of 77 and 79, respectively, in the two rounds.
Freshman Meghan Hunter totaled a +14 score (158) in the tournament to tie for 18th place as she tallied scores of 79 in each round.
Sophomore Becky Hoffman tied for 27th place overall in the event with a 160 (+16). Hoffman followed up her score of 79 on Saturday with a final round score of 81 in the event.
Finally for Ferris, freshman Alison Meyer placed tied for 54th place overall in the field of 91 golfers with a two-day score of 170 (+26). Meyer carded an 86 in the opening round before finishing the tournament with an 84 on Sunday.
The tournament took place on the par 72, 5,983-yard course at Perry Park Golf Course.
