The Ferris State University women's golf team has received a second-place East Region ranking in the latest NCAA Division II women's golf regional poll, which was released Monday (April 17) by the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Committee.

The Bulldogs, under seventh-year head coach Brad Bedortha, are presently listed second in the East Region behind Drury (Mo.) Grand Valley State is ranked third while Northwood (fourth) and Southern Indiana (fifth) round out the top five.

The rankings, which don't guarantee teams selection into the national championship tournament, reflect results through competition of April 13.

Representing the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) in the East Region rankings besides Ferris State, Grand Valley State, and Northwood are Findlay (eighth) and Ashland (10th).

Ferris State senior Elena Robles (Torrance, Calif./Redondo Union) is listed 115th nationally for all divisions in the latest Golfstat Cup standings which ranks the top scoring averages in collegiate women's golf. Robles was averaging 74.80 strokes for 15 rounds through April 12 and was seventh among NCAA-II golfers in the Top 250 Golfstat Cup rankings. Drury's Tonya Choate leads all NCAA-II competitors this spring with a 73.29 average in 14 rounds.

Robles has achieved top individual medalist honors three times in the 2005-06 season -- Ball State Cardinal Classic (147; 9/19-20), Northwood Invitational (148; 9/30-10/1), and Findlay William "Bing" Beall Classic (147; 10/2-3).

Ferris attained a fifth-place ranking with 74 total points in the most recent (March 29) National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Division II Coaches Poll. Rollins (Fla.), three-time (2003-05) national championships, is ranked number one with 100 points while Drury is listed fourth with 86 points.
