Ferris Golfers Named All-Americans

Ferris State golf team juniors Jim Lusk and Andy Mielke were named NCAA Division II All-Americans after leading the Bulldogs to an eighth-place finish at the 1998 NCAA Division II Championships.

Lusk was named to the second team All-America while Mielke earned third team honors. A first team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection in 1998, Lusk had a 76.1 scoring average through 19 rounds of golf during the team's spring season. He also finished as one of the top 20 golfers at both the NCAA Division II North Regional Tournament and at the NCAA-II Championships.

"Jim has been the leader of our team all year," Bulldogs golf coach Tom Underwood explained. "he has been a three-year starter and I have watched him continually strive to improve his understanding and knowledge of the game. The honors Jim has received are a tribute to how hard he has worked."

Mielke was also named to the first team All-GLIAC this season. He finished the season with the team's second highest scoring average at 75.7 through 19 rounds.

"Andy has been our most valuable team player," Lusk said. "He was elected our co-captain because of his attitude, talent and leadership. I can't say enough about him. Andy just leads by example and expects to win."
