BULLDOGS TIE FOR FOURTH AT SUPER REGIONAL
The Ferris State men's golf team wrapped up its 2004-05 season with a fourth-place tying performance at the 2005 NCAA Division II Central/Great Lakes Super Regional (May 2-4), which were held at the St. Joseph (Mo.) Country Club.
The Bulldogs posted a 304-stroke total in Wednesday's (May 4) final round to finish with a 915 score (+63), tying Northwood for fourth-place honors in the eight-team tournament field. Ferris was two strokes behind third-place Wayne State (913, +61) and six back of runner-up Grand Valley State (909, +57) on the par 71, 6,582-yard course. Northern Kentucky captured the regional crown with a first-place 891 total (+39) as Curtis Phelps of NKU earned top individual medalist accolades with a 219 score (68-77-74--219, +6).
A pair of upperclassmen, junior Derek Radley and senior Aaron Brown paved the way for Ferris. Radley compiled a 227 score (73-76-78--227, +14) to place in a five-way tie for 12th while Brown carded a 228 (83-72-73--228, +15) which was good for 17th place.
Sophomore Alex Balog shot a 79 in the final round to garner a 28th-place tie with a three-round 235 total (80-76-79--235, +22). Sophomore Jeff Carlson (75-79-81--235, +22) and fellow sophomore Kyle Mason (85-76-74--235, +22) both tied Balog for the 28th-place position.
