FSU EARNS RUNNER-UP PLAUDITS AT GRAND VALLEY STATE INVITE

Carlson and Shelburne Pave The Way For The Bulldogs

Freshman Derek Shelburne posted a nine over 153 score at the Grand Valley State Invitational to tie for ninth place.
The Ferris State men's golf team claimed second place with a 36-hole 614 team total (+42) at the 10-team Grand Valley State Invitational in Allendale, Mich.

The Bulldogs recorded a 303 opening-round stroke total on Saturday (Sept. 18) and then followed Sunday (Sept. 19) with a 311 score on the par 72, 6,968-yard The Meadows Golf Course to finish 13 strokes behind tourney champion Grand Valley State (601, +25).

Sophomore Jeff Carlson shot a sixth-place tying 152 score (75-77--152, +8) to pace the Bulldogs individually. Freshman Derek Shelburne was one stroke back of Carlson and placed tied for ninth after carding a 153-stroke total (74-79--153, +9).

Alex Balog (78-78--156, +12) and Kyle Mason (76-80--156, +12), a pair of sophomore along with junior Todd Griffin (79-77--156, +12) all finished in a five-way tie for 23rd place.

Turning in a noteworthy performance as a non-scoring individual was sophomore Kyle Snell, who fired a 153 (74-79--153, +9) to tie for ninth-place honors.
