BULLDOGS FINISH ONE-UNDER PAR TO WIN GREAT LAKES FALL REGIONAL

Todd Griffin guided the Bulldogs to the Great Lakes Fall Regional title with a first-place three-under 141 score.
Ferris State junior Todd Griffin shot a three-under par 141 to not only earn top individual medalist laurels but also to lead the Bulldogs' men's golf team to a first-place finish at the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Fall Regional Tournament I in South Haven, Mich.

FSU turned in a a two-round 572-stroke total to garner top honors as the Bulldogs recorded an opening-round 286 score in Sunday's (Sept. 26) play and then followed the next day (Sept. 27) with a 289 in final-round action on the par 72, 6,937-yard HawksHead Links. Wayne State and Northern Kentucky both tied for second place in this season's tournament with identical 590 scores (+14). Indianapolis claimed fourth place (592, +18), Findlay took fifth (595, +19) and Northwood garnered sixth place (597, +21).

The 575 team total tied for the sixth-best ever 36-hole performance in the program's history, matching the score (293-282--575) set at the Grand Valley State Invitational in 1998 (9/12-13). Ferris took sixth place with a 634 score at last fall's regional in Coldwater, Mich. Griffin carded a 70 opening-round score and then had one extra stroke in the final round to notch a 141-stroke total, which was one shot in front of sophomore Jeff Carlson. Carlson tallied a two-under par 142 (70-72--142) to share second-place honors.

Senior Aaron Brown finished in a four-way tie for fifth by producing an even-par 144 (71-73--144). Sophomores Alex Balog and Kyle Mason claimed a tie for 20th and 63rd place, respectively. Balog was among six golfers to tie for 20th as he turned in a 148 (75-73--148, +4). Mason rounded out Ferris' scoring with a 156 (80-76--156, +12) to join five others for 63rd place in the individual results.
