Bulldogs Rally To Win Tourney By A Single Stroke

The Ferris State men's golf team shot a tournament-best 297 final-round score Sunday (Oct. 3) to win the Bay Valley Intercollegiate Tournament, which was conducted on the par 81, 6,661-yard Bay Valley Golf Course in Bay City, Mich.
Ferris, which turned in a 304 total in Saturday's (Oct. 2) opening-round play, took top team honors with a 601 to place one stroke in front of Mercyhurst (602) while Saginaw Valley State was third at 606 followed by Wisconsin-Parkside's fourth-place 609 score. In the process, the Bulldogs defended their Bay Valley Tourney title after winning last year's event with a two-round first-place 596 team score (+20).
Paving the way for FSU was junior Todd Griffin, who garnered top team honors for the third straight tourney with a second-place tying 145 score (75-70--145, +2). He finished one stroke back of Gannon's Dave Patronik (144, +2) for individual medalist honors.
Sophomore Alex Balog posted a 149 (74-75--149, +7) to finish in a three-way deadlock for sixth place while sophomore Kyle Mason carded a 152 (74-78--152, +10) to tie four others for 14th place.
Placing tied for 37th place was sophomore Jeff Carlson, who registered a 157-stroke total (81-76--157, +15). Junior Derek Radley's 160 score (84-76--160, +18) placed him in a tie for 52nd place.
Freshman Derek Shelburne participated as a non-scoring individual and had a 70th-place tying 171 (85-86--171, +29).
