BULLDOGS POST THIRD-PLACE FINISH AT NORTHWOOD INVITE

Senior Pat Simmer Continues To Lead Ferris In Tourney Play

Freshman Jeff Carlson equaled his season-best effort with a seventh-place tying 150 score at the Northwood Invitational.
With a solid showing in both rounds, the Ferris State men's golf team claimed its first tournament title of the 2003-04 season as the Bulldogs captured first-place honors at the Bay Valley Intercollegiate Tournament in Bay City, Mich.

The Ferris State men's golf team completed play at the Northwood Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 28) and finished third of nine teams with a 36-hole score of 607 (306-301--607), six strokes behind the tourney champion Northwood (601). The tourney was held at the par 72 Currie Golf Course in Midland, Mich.

The Bulldogs were led by senior Pat Simmer, who finished tied for fourth individually after firing a 149 total (74-75--149). Simmer finished six strokes behind the top individual medalist. Freshman Jeff Carlson matched his season-best performance with a seventh-place tying 150 score (76-74-150) while senior Everett Leonard shot a 153 (77-76-153) to tie for 18th place.

Freshman Kyle Mason's 157-stroke total (81-76-157) tied him for 33rd-place honors and sophomore Aaron Brown put up a 41st-place tying 160 score (80-80-160).

Taking part as non-scoring participants for Ferris were senior Craig Piscopink and freshman Alex Balog, both of whom tied for 22nd place with 154 scores. Piscopink notched rounds of 78 and 76 while Balog shot a 76 in the opening round followed by a 78-stroke sum in the final round.
