Scott Seifferlein and Jim Lusk, former members of the Ferris State University men’s golf program, teammed up on the golf course in the late 1990’s to form a productive combination and are doing likewise now as the two have joined to form the annual Seifferlein and Lusk Men’s Golf Scholarship.
“I would like to express my gratitude to Scott and Jim for their noteworthy gesture, “said FSU fifth-year head coach Brad Bedortha. “It’s great to have two of our alumni show their appreciation in this way. They both had a great experience at Ferris State and wanted to further enhance the opportunities for future men’s golf student-athletes at the university.
“This (scholarship) also provides an added incentive at the end of each season for our guys to perform at their best and receive this reward,” added Bedortha.
Criteria for selecting the recipient(s) of the Seifferlein and Lusk Men’s Golf Team Scholarship are as follows: A candidate must be enrolled as a full-time student and be a member of the Ferris State men’s golf team; Recipient(s) must have earned a 2.70 grade point average; Scholarship will be awarded only those years that the team advances to regional competition; Determining criterion shall be having earned the lowest scoring average at the end of the season based on participating in a minimum 75% of tournament rounds; The scholarship amount shall be $1,000 per academic year and be applied directly to the recipient’s university account; Financial need shall not be considered a determining criterion; Management of the selection process rests with the head coach of the men’s golf program; and Scott Seifferlein and Jim Lusk, in consultation with the coach of the men’s golf program, may modify the scholarship criteria as deemed appropriate to ensure the purpose and intention of scholarship are maintained and/or to address the needs of potential recipients.
Seifferlein, a four-year letterwinner (1997-00) at Ferris State, was a member of the 1999-00 team which placed tied for eighth at the 38th annual NCAA-II Championships (5/16-19/00) in Turlock, Calif. A native of Port Sanilac, Mich., Seifferlein is presently an assistant golf professional at the Middle Bay Country Club in Oceanside, N.Y.

He also was named to the Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar Team in consecutive seasons (1998 and 1999).
