FERRIS TIES FOR SECOND AT GREAT LAKES TOURNEY III

Bulldogs Register Final Round's Best Score

Freshman Alex Balog was Ferris State's top individual finisher for the second consecutive time.
Ferris State men's golf team carded a tourney final-round best 305 score Monday (April 19) to claim a tie for second place with Saginaw Valley State at the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region Tournament III in Auburn, Ind.

The Bulldogs, who recorded a 300-stroke total in Sunday's (April 18) opening round, finished the tourney with a 605 team score (300-305--605, +37) for 36 holes. Saginaw Valley State shot rounds of 297 and 308 to finish runner-up with Ferris State. Grand Valley State was first in the 19-team field as a result of posting a 593 score (281-312--593, +25) on the par 71, 6,582-yard Deer Track Golf Course.

Freshman Alex Balog led the Bulldogs for the second straight tournament at seven-over 149 (73-76--149, +7) to tie for sixth place. Senior Chris Griffin was one shot behind at 150 (77-73--150, +8) to finish tied with four others for eighth.

Joining Balog and Griffin in the top 20 field was freshman Kyle Mason, who shot rounds of 75 and 77 to register a 16th-place tying 152 score (+10). Frosh Jeff Carlson turned in a 23rd-place tying effort after producing a 154 (75-79--154, +12) while senior Jon Pazdera rounded out the team scoring at 159 (79-80--159, +17) to tie for 56th place.
