FERRIS STATE'S VALLEY CLAIMS GLIAC HONOR AGAIN
Bulldog Golfer Receives Conference Honor For Second-Straight Week
Ferris State University's Kurt Valley (Bay City/Western) has been selected as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) Men's Golf Athlete of the Week (April 16) for the second-straight week and third time this season.
A junior on the 2008-09 FSU men's golf team, Valley helped the Bulldogs to their third consecutive tournament title by capturing medalist honors with a first-place 145 score (73-73=145, +1) at the Northwood Invitational held last weekend (April 10-11) in Midland, Mich. Valley carded a one-over par individual total to take the title by one stroke as the Bulldogs fired a two-round score of 593 on the par 72, 7,056-yard Currie West Golf Course.
This week marks the second-straight week Valley has won the league individual honor and the second time in as many weeks he has captured medalist honors after registering his first career win the week prior (April 4-5) at the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region Tournament II held at The Jewel in Georgetown, Ky. To date, he's received the conference weekly honor three times this campaign.
A 2007-08 honorable mention all-conference selection, Valley was also recognized as the GLIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week this past fall (Sept. 9) as a result of his performance at the Northern Michigan Invitational.
Ferris State is next in action this weekend (April 19-20) at the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Tournament III, which will be held at Purgatory Golf Course in Noblesville, Ind.
