MEN'S GOLF WRAPS UP TOURNEY WITH THIRD-PLACE PERFORMANCE
The Ferris State men's golf team fired a 295 score in Monday's (Sept. 29) final round and finished third at the Grand Valley State The Arendsen Tournament in Allendale, Mich.
The Bulldogs registered scores of 297 and 288 in the opening two rounds Sunday (Sept. 28) before recording a final-round 295 score to finish a 16-over-par 880 on the par 72, 7,060-yard The Meadows Golf Course.
Indianapolis won the tournament with an 872-stroke total (+8) to place six strokes in front of second-place and host Grand Valley State B (878, +14) in the 12-team field.
Leading the way for FSU was junior Eric Lilleboe (Okemos/Lansing Catholic Central), who ended up tied for second place after shooting a three-under-par 213 (74-67-72=213). Lilleboe tied Indianapolis' Josh Hueber and Dave Vaughn of Grand Valley State for top individual honors after regulation play, but lost a sudden-death one hole playoff to Hueber for medalist placing.
Coming in seven strokes behind Lilleboe was junior Kurt Valley (Bay City/Western), who tied two others for eighth place by producing a 220 score (76-72-72=220, +4) in the 54-hole tourney. Sophomore Joe Brown's (St. Ignace/LaSalle) 223-stroke total (74-74-75=223, +7) was good for a 17th-place tie.
Senior Kelbi Lee (Billings, Mont.) would claim sole possession of 26th place as a result of an 11-over-par 227 (74-75-78=227). Rounding out the scoring for Ferris State was senior Derek Shelburne (Scotts/Vicksburg) at 12-over-par 228 (75-77-76=228), which earned him a tie for 27th-place honors.
Redshirt freshman Garrett Simons (Grand Ledge) netted a 233 (74-74-85=233, +17) as a non-scoring individual and wound up in a 49th-place tie.
