FERRIS STATE'S VALLEY NAMED GLIAC GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Bulldog Golfer Receives Conference Honor For The Second Time This Season
Ferris State University's Kurt Valley (Bay City/Western) has been selected as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) Men's Golf Athlete of the Week (April 8).
A junior on the 2008-09 FSU men's golf team, Valley captured individual medalist honors for the first time in his collegiate career with
an 11-under par 133 two-round stroke total. Valley posted rounds of 68 and 65 in leading Ferris State to its second consecutive tournament championship as the Bulldogs took top team honors with a first-place 565 score at last weekend's (April 4-5) NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region Tournament II held at the The Jewell in Georgetown, Ky.
Valley's best placing prior to this past weekend's (April 4-5) first-place showing was a runner-up finish at the 2008 Northern Michigan Invitational earlier this season (Sept. 6-7) in which he carded a three-round five-under par 208-stroke total (69-72-67=208) on the Marquette (Mich.) Country Club course.
A 2007-08 honorable mention all-conference selection, Valley was also recognized as the GLIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week this past fall (Sept. 9) as a result of his performance at the Northern Michigan Invitational.
This season, Valley is presently averaging a team second-best 72.55 stroke average with 1,596 total strokes in 22 rounds of competition. The 6-1 Bulldog golfer has registered five top-10 place efforts, which includes four among the top five, to date for the 2008-09 season.
In 82 career rounds, Valley has currently posted a 74.68 strokes (6,124 total strokes) per round average. The 2007-08 FSU Men's Golf Bulldog Award recipient has amassed 18 top-20 career finishes, which includes eight within the top five.
Ferris State is in action this weekend (April 10-11) at the Northwood Invitational in Midland, Mich.
