Ferris State Golfer Recognized For Outstanding Play On The Links

Kurt Valley The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has selected junior Kurt Valley (Bay City/Western) of the 2008-09 Ferris State University men's golf team as this week's (Sept. 9) Men's Golf Athlete of the Week for his performance this past weekend (Sept. 6-7).

Valley earned individual runner-up honors at the 2008 Northern Michigan Invitational this last weekend (Sept. 6-7) with a three-round five-under par 208-stroke total on the Marquette (Mich.) Country Club course. Valley, a 2007-08 All-GLIAC Honorable Mention selection, carded rounds of 69, 72, and 67 in helping lead Ferris State to a fifth-place 875 team score in the Bulldogs' 2008 fall season-opening tournament.

The 6-1 Valley ended up three strokes behind Indianapolis' Justin Hueber for tourney medalist honors. Hueber registered an eight-under par 205 score in the 54-hole event.

In 63 career rounds, Valley has currently registered a 75.17 strokes (4,736 total strokes) per round average. The 2007-08 FSU Men's Golf Bulldog Award recipient has produced 14 top-20 career finishes, including five in the top five.

Ferris State returns to the links Sept. 15-16 as the Bulldogs compete in the Indianapolis Invitational at Camby, Ind.
