Four Straight Spring Tournament Titles Help Bulldogs Gain National Accolades

The 2008-09 Ferris State University men's golf team is gaining national attention as a result of winning its last four consecutive tournaments to date as the Bulldogs cracked the Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Coaches' Top 25 Poll for the first time in the 2008-09 season by earning the 25th-place position.

Junior Kurt Valley and the Ferris State men's golf team are ranked 25th in the nation.

The fourth poll of the spring season was released this Wednesday (April 22) and will appear in the April 27th issue of Golf World. The national poll can also be viewed online at The Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Coaches' Poll combines the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

FSU received 40 points in the national poll and was one point in back of Rollins (Fla.) for 24th place. Columbus State (Ga.) remained the nation's top-ranked team with 391 points and 10 first-place votes. Georgia College was second with four first-place votes and 374 points while Nova Southeastern (Fla.) and Central Oklahoma each picked up one first-place vote while tallying 353 and 351 points, respectively.

Ferris State, under second-year head coach Mike Mignano, was one of 17 teams listed as others to receive votes in the third spring poll (April 1) as the Bulldogs registered 14 points.

This spring, FSU has placed first in all four of its tournaments - Ashland Invitational (March 28-29), NCAA-II Great Lakes Region Tournament II-The Jewell (April 4-5), Northwood Invitational (April 10-11), and the NCAA-II Great Lakes Region Tournament III (April 19-20). Ferris State has recorded at least a fifth place or higher finish in nine of its 10 2008-09 season tournament to date.

The Bulldogs will now await a bid to the 2009 NCAA Division II Central/Great Lakes Super Regional, which will be held May 4-6 at Grand Valley State University's The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Mich.
