Ferris State Golfer Receives Conference's Top Individual Honor

Ferris State University's Eric Lilleboe (Okemos/Lansing Catholic Central) has been selected as the 2007-08 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) Men's Golf Athlete of the Year as announced by the conference office on Tuesday (May 13).
Two other Bulldog men's golfers attained All-GLIAC Honorable Mention accolades in sophomore Kurt Valley (Bay City/Western) and senior Matt Erickson (DePere, Wis.).

Lilleboe, who also earned first-team all-conference plaudits, averaged a team-leading 73.30 stokes per round (2,199 total strokes) in 30 rounds this season. He placed among the top 10 individuals in 10 tournaments for the 2007-08 campaign and registered six top-five place performances.
Lilleboe was the Bulldogs' top performer in five tournaments this season. He shot a ninth-place tying 222 score (73-75-72=222) at the GLIAC Championships (Oct. 8-9) in helping the Bulldogs to a second-place tying finish with a 880-team score in the 54-hole event.
The FSU sophomore posted a second-place finish at the 2008 NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional (May 5-7) in Findlay, Ohio, as a result of firing an even-par 216-stroke total (74-70-72=216). The Bulldogs concluded their season by claiming third place in the regional tournament with a three-round 889 team score (+25).
Lilleboe attained individual medalist honors in three tournaments this season - Northwood Invitational (Sept. 10), The GEICO Intercollegiate (March 14-15), and the Findlay Outback Steakhouse Invitational (April 11-12). Lilleboe carded a 143 (70-73=143) at the Northwood Invite and then produced a 216-stroke total (70-73-73=216) at The GEICO Intercollegiate in Savannah, Ga. He turned in a first-place 144 score (74-70=144) at the Findlay Outback Steakhouse Invite.
For his career, Lilleboe is averaging 74.66 strokes (3,061 total strokes) in 41 rounds.
Findlay's Joe McGeean was chosen as the GLIAC Freshman of the Year while his head coach Al Baker garnered Coach of the Year accolades.
Ferris State also landed the GLIAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Year this season as senior Becky Hoffman received the honor marking the first time ever in which the Bulldogs had the conference's top player in both men's and women's golf.
