LILLEBOE EARNS MEDALIST HONORS AS FERRIS STATE MEN'S GOLF SQUAD FINISHES SECOND IN FINDLAY OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE INVITATIONAL
Bulldogs Come In Four Strokes Behind Champion Wayne State
The Ferris State University men's golf team earned runner-up honors in the Findlay Outback Steakhouse Invitational held Friday and Saturday (April 11-12) at Sycamore Springs Golf Course in Findlay, Ohio.
The Bulldogs carded a two-round score of 604 (+28) and finished only four shots behind Wayne State, which won the team race with a 600 (+24) total on the par 72 course measuring 6,681 yards. Host Findlay came in second at 609 (+33) with Northwood one-shot behind in fourth place (+34) among the 12 teams in the field.
Ferris ranked third after the first day with a first-round score of 304, but came back to card a 300 in hte final round.
Bulldog sophomore Eric Lilleboe was the tournament's individual medalist as he shot a 74 on Friday followed by a tournament-best 70 Saturday to finish with an even-par 144 overall for the event. He finished two shots ahead of WSU's Ryan Johnson (146).
Fellow sophomore Kurt Valley placed tied for 11th (+8) in the field with a 152 after carding a 76 in both rounds of the competition.
Meanwhile, Ferris redshirt freshman Joe Brown came in 24th with a 155 (+11). He fired an opening-round score of 75 before totaling a 80 in the final round.
Junior Kelbi Lee (+12) tied for 25th place overall with a 156 and junior Derek Shelburne (+13) placed tied for 33rd in the field at 157. Lee netted scores of 79 and 77 in the two rounds while Shelburne came in with an 80 Friday and a 77 on Saturday.
FSU junior Brian Janty competed as an individual and placed tied for 43rd place with a 160 (+16) on rounds of 83 and 77, respectively.
The Bulldogs will next compete in the Ashland Invitational on Sunday and Monday (April 13-14) in Ashland, Ohio.
