BULLDOG MEN'S GOLF PLACES SECOND IN ASHLAND INVITATIONAL
Ferris Earns Second-Straight Weekend Runner-Up Finish
The Ferris State University men's golf team claimed runner-up honors in the Ashland Invitational as the Bulldogs carded a two-day total of 602 in the event, which concluded Monday (April 14) at the Ashland Country Club in Ashland, Ohio.
Ferris State finished seven strokes behind champion Grand Valley State's 595 total in the two rounds of competition. FSU shot a opening-round score of 298 followed by a 304 in the final round of the nine-team event. The Bulldogs held the first round lead before the Lakers came back to fire the tourney's low round of 293 over the final 18 holes of action.
Bulldog sophomore Kurt Valley finished in a tie for fifth overall with a 148 (71-77=148, +4) to lead the Bulldogs.
Sophomore Eric Lilleboe and junior Kelbi Lee both placed tied for seventh in the field as both totaled a 150 (+6) score. Lilleboe shot rounds of 76 and 74 while Lee carded a 74 followed by a 76.
Junior Derek Shelburne placed tied for 18th place at 10-over par (154) as he shot a 77 in both rounds.
Freshman Joe Brown tied for 28th place at 155 (+11) with scores of 77 and 78 in the competition.
FSU's Brian Janty, a junior, competed as an individual and tied for 31st overall with a 156 (+12) on rounds of 78 each day.
The par 72 course measured 6,699 yards.
Ferris State next takes part in the NCAA Divison II Great Lakes Regional Tournament #3 on April 19-20 in Noblesville, Ind.
