Sophomore Nick Pexa carded a team-leading 144 score to place tied for seventh place as the Ferris State men's golf team began its 2006-07 season by finishing tied for third place at the 36-hole Ferris State Bulldog Invitational Saturday (Sept. 16)in Big Rapids, Mich.
The Bulldogs, which totaled a 13-over-par 589-stroke total, posted a 303 first-round score and then followed up with a 286 in the afternoon's final-round play on the par 72, 6,676-yard Katke Golf Course.
Grand Valley State won the 10-team event with a final total of two-over-par 578 after besting second-place Saginaw Valley State in a playoff. The Cardinals claimed two of the top three individual finishers, which included medalist Adam Miller's 140-stroke total. Lewis matched Ferris State's team score to tie for third and Wayne State captured fifth place as a result of compiling a 591 score.
Senior Jeff Carlson tied for 18th place at 146 (73-73=146, +2). Freshman Kurt Valley shot a 26th-place tying 148 (78-70=148, +4) in his first collegiate match while senior Brody Moreland posted a 151 score (79-72=151, +7) to finish 36th.
Senior Kyle Mason recorded a 152 (79-73=152, +8) and wound in a 37th-place deadlock.
Taking part as non-scoring individuals were sophomore Eric Dovre and freshman Eric Lilleboe. In his first match as a Bulldog, Dovre claimed a tie for 12th place after notching a 145 (74-71=145, +1) while Lilleboe produced a 148-stroke total (75-73=148, +4) to gain a five-way tie for 26th in his initial appearance at the collegiate level.
