|Senior Jeff Carlson received All-GLIAC honors for the fourth consecutive year.
The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) recently released its 2006-07 Men's Golf Postseason Awards and a pair of Ferris State University men's golf team members, senior Jeff Carlson (Holland/West Ottawa) and sophomore Eric Dovre (Holly), were both second-team all-conference selections.
The two were among six individuals to garner second-team recognition as the GLIAC honored a combined 17 players on the first, second and honorable mention teams.
The All-GLIAC Men's Golf selections are based upon a player's stroke average in his 10 best rounds per conference play, which includes the three rounds of the GLIAC Championships. All ties were broken by total strokes in the GLIAC Championships.
The 2006-07 GLIAC Player of the Year was Wayne State's Ryan Johnson. Mitch Molen of Gannon was tabbed the Freshman of the Year and Mike Horn of Wayne State was chosen as the conference Coach of the Year.
For Carlson, the all-conference accolades marked the fourth straight season in which the Bulldog golfer has earned such plaudits. He was a 2005-06 first-team pick after attaining honorable mention honors in the previous two seasons (2003-04 and 2004-05).
Carlson is currently second among Ferris State's stroke average leaders this season at 74.32 (1,858 total strokes) in 25 rounds. He has compiled a team-leading nine top-20 individual finishes and has recorded a squad-best three top-five performances this campaign. Carlson, who was the Bulldogs' top performer in three tournaments this season, took medalist honors at the 2007 NCAA Division II Great Lakes Super Regional (May 7-9) in Joplin, Mo., with a first-place 206 three-round score. He placed tied for second at the Ashland Invitational (April 13-14) after carding a two-round 147-stroke total and finished in a 14th-place tie at the GLIAC Championships (Oct. 7-8) by producing a 224 score in the 54-hole event.
Dovre, who made his collegiate debut in the fall, averaged a team-best 73.80 strokes per round (738 total strokes) in 10 rounds this past fall. He finished among the top 20 on four occasions, including twice in the top 10. Dovre's top placing was a tie for fifth as a non-scoring individual with a three-round 223-stroke total at the Bay Valley Intercollegiate Tournament (Sept. 30-Oct. 1). He wrapped up the fall campaign by firing an 11th-place tying 223 score at the GLIAC Championships (Oct. 7-8).
Ferris State is presently competing in the 45th annual NCAA-II Men's Golf Championships (May 22-25), which are being conducted at Grand Valley State University's The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Mich. The Bulldogs advanced to the national tournament for the first time since 2003 after taking first place at the NCAA-II Great Lakes Super Regional (May 7-9) in Joplin, Mo.
