The Ferris State University Athletics Department has paired up with senior students in the university's Television and Digital Media Production (TDMP) program to produce "Ferris Sports Update", a weekly television program profiling Ferris State University Athletics. The program, which is already underway, airs locally every Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. (EST) this semester via Ferris Cable 7 Television.
The show is hosted by local radio personality Scott Roman of Sunny 97.3 in Reed City. The 30-minute program is taped and produced in a studio within the Instructional Resource Center (IRC) Building on the FSU campus. The show is then aired both through on-campus cable and locally by Charter Communications on channel 22 in the Big Rapids area.
In addition to the Wednesday evening broadcast, the show will air at other various times throughout the week. The show will also stream live over the internet at the same time and can be accessed through the Ferris homepage at www.ferris.edu (click on visitors and then Ferris Cable 7 link).
"Ferris Sports Update" affords a unique opportunity for Bulldog fans to get up-to-date information pertaining to Ferris State Athletics while also providing insight from the respective FSU varsity athletic programs from its coaches, student-athletes and support staff. The show will include features on Ferris State student-athletes along with highlights from FSU Athletics events.
“I'm excited about the collaboration between the television production program and the athletics department in regards to the product being turned out to promote the university,” said FSU Athletics Director Tom Kirinovic. “The support of the TDMP faculty and staff has been outstanding and the cooperation of our coaching staff has been equally impressive.
"The show that is being produced will make all Bulldogs proud."
The students in the class producing the show are under the direction of faculty member Glen Okonoski with assistance from department chair Fred Wyman and Steve Cox of FSU Media Production.
"Ferris Sports Update is a great way for Bulldog fans to connect with our teams, coaches and student-athletes," Roman said. "This also provides an opportunity for those individuals that aren't familiar with Ferris State University and Bulldog athletics to become acquainted with who we are and what we're doing.
"All of the FSU Television Production students that work on the show are experienced and quite professional."
Ferris Cable 7 Television, which is maintained by the FSU Media Production Department, also re-broadcasts selected FSU sports events such as home hockey and football games throughout the year. Besides athletics, the channel broadcasts commencement exercises, student-produced programming from the Television and Digital Media Production department along with programming of interest to the campus and the community.
Campus groups, registered student organizations and local non-profit/community organizations also use the cable channel to promote public events and activities. All programming through Ferris Cable Channel 7 streams live on the Ferris website.
